The room was dark, I was out of breath, I was sweaty and concentrating hard on my work. It was tedious, hard core work. Repetitive, exhausting and only partially fulfilling. My phone rang, a name flashed on the screen, I threw a glance at the phone while continuing my hard work. It was my boss. My mind was finding it hard to concentrate on the call. Nevertheless, it was my boss. I weight in the pros and cons of answering. Ignoring the call meant my boss would think I was not available 24/7. Answering would interrupt what I was doing and disturb my concentration. I pondered as I went about with my task at hand. Could it be about tomorrow’s budget meeting? Did he want to reduce my quota? Was I getting the new head count approval. Of course, letting my mind wonder this way was delaying my reaching conclusion on my current task.
Still it was my boss, I’d better answer… By now the flashing light was the only bright thing in the room, work was not really on my mind anymore and that lead to a softening of my concentration… I may as well answer…
“Allo, Yes Boss how can I help you? No, you are not interrupting…”
As I uttered these words to my boss, my woman said: “If you answer the phone before I come, I’ll fucking kill you!”
